About the Nursery and Pre-School

Beacon Nursery offers childcare to children aged 3 months to 3 years, opened in its new location within Beacon Heath Children Centre in January 2015. The nursery boasts a large open plan play room full of learning opportunities, which has free flow access to an extensive outdoor play area which offers your child many learning experiences. The toddlers have access to the bathroom/changing area, an activity room used for key group time, story time and music sessions. This room also currently turns into the toddler sleep area. The children within Beacon nursery also have access to a soft play room and a sensory room located within the building.

There are two calming and nurturing baby rooms where your child can relax and be comfortable. Each room provides care for up to 6 babies. Our aim is to provide a homely environment where your child feels safe and secure, where they can follow their own routine and where qualified and experienced staff plan activities for your child around their own individual developmental needs, interests and schemas. We have dedicated and experienced staff team, one of whom are assigned as your child’s key worker. We promote partnership working with parents and offer settling in sessions with your child’s key worker before they start at the nursery. We encourage parents input/feedback in relation to your child’s interests, development and milestones so staff can plan and record progress. We use a lot of photographic evidence to share with you the experiences and opportunities your child enjoys while at the settings.

The term after your child turns 3 years of age, they will transition to our newly refurbished pre-school named Cedars. This building re-opened its doors in January 2016 catering for children aged 3-5 years of age. The setting is located in a two story building that was once a number of years ago a head teachers house. The pre-school boasts a fabulous outdoor play area with many enriched play opportunities for the children to explore all year round. The pre-school has an expressive arts room, a snug where your child can enjoy reading and sharing books on the comfy sofa, and have access to the computer to develop and extend their ICT literacy and numeracy skills using age appropriate programmes.

Each child will have a designated key worker who will observe and plan for each individual child using the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Our Preschool offers a large indoor play space and a quiet ‘snug’ room, which children have free flow access to. We provide a range of activities from Imaginative play to Maths and Literacy games.

Children at Cedars develop their independence through making choices throughout the day from choosing activities to what they would like for snack. Like many Primary schools, we use the ‘Jolly Phonics’ programme to introduce children to reading.

We are lucky enough to have our own ‘Expressive Arts Room’ where children can express their creativity using a variety of materials such as paint, clay and collage. Having a room dedicated to this allows the children to return to their work as many times as they feel necessary.

Dependant on your child’s session they are provided with breakfast, a-mid morning and afternoon ‘café’ style healthy snack and a healthy and wholesome cooked lunch. Beacon and Cedars has a Nursery Chef who is able to cater for any dietary requirements, and prepares a healthy and nutritious two course lunch for the children.
